On Sept. 8, the Senate passed long-awaited patent reform legislation, bringing patent reform one step closer to reality after years of congressional debate.

Known as the Leahy-Smith America Invents Act, the act passed the Senate with bipartisan support 89-9 on Sept. 8 (a version of the act was passed by the House of Representatives in June). The act has been submitted to President Obama for his signature. Since the president has been on record as supporting patent reform, it is likely to be signed into law in the near future.
