A recent poll showed that by a margin of 52 to 40 percent Pennsylvania voters favor the current electoral college system, where the presidential candidate who wins the majority of votes wins all the electoral votes, according to a recent poll conducted by Quinnipiac University. A proposal from a powerful Republican state senator would change the electoral system by giving the loser of the overall vote count some electoral votes in the election, if the candidate wins the popular vote in some congressional districts.

“The overall results weren’t much of a surprise to us,” said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. “But we were surprised to find that those who identified themselves with the Republican Party were split almost down the middle on this issue.”
