A Butler County judge has ruled that when a party in a divorce dies before trial, a court should look at the circumstances, rather than proceeding as if the death had not happened.
Butler County Common Pleas Court Judge Kelley T.D. Streib decided the apparent issue of first impression in Keefer v. Cafaro. In Keefer, Ronald B. Keefer died during the month before he and his wife, Sharon L. Keefer, were set to settle upon distribution of marital assets in family court.
