The business case for diversity in the legal profession is made often, but very few in-house counsel and corporate general counsel have actually fired outside law firms or reduced the work given to law firms that don’t stack up in terms of the diversity of attorneys working on matters, according to survey results discussed Tuesday at the Philadelphia Bar Association’s National Symposium on Diversity in the Legal Profession.

Sandra S. Yamate, chief executive officer of the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession, said very few businesses are actually using incentives to encourage the staffing of diverse attorneys on legal matters they outsource to outside counsel.
