Attorneys who helped Staples managers achieve a $42 million global settlement last year in a class action suit alleging unpaid overtime have won $11.5 million in fees.
District Judge Katharine Hayden of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey in Newark ruled on Nov. 4 that the lawyers’ requested fee was reasonable, given that “counsel reached a settlement that encompassed multiple categories of plaintiffs and resolved numerous federal and state law claims with varying proof requirements, to the benefit of approximately 5,500 people.”
