State Rep. Mike Turzai, R-Allegheny, the state House of Representatives majority leader, is as determined as ever to move his legislation that privatizes the sale of alcohol in Pennsylvania, according to a source in his office. But Harrisburg observers say that action taken late last year by the House Liquor Control Committee to amend and move Turzai’s bill from committee might actually make final passage more difficult.
“The way this bill is written now no one is really behind it,” said one longtime Harrisburg lobbyist involved in the fight to privatize. “Not the pro-privatization people, not the beer people, and the unions still don’t like it.”
