The University of Pittsburgh School of Law has hired Temple University’s Beasley School of Law professor William M. “Chip” Carter Jr. as its new dean.

Carter will start July 1 and will be taking over from Dean Mary Crossley, who has held the position since 2005 and will return to Pitt’s law faculty, a university spokeswoman confirmed. The search for a new dean at Pitt has lasted about a year with executive search firm Witt Kieffer assisting the school’s dean search committee.
