Duane Morris has filed preliminary objections in a legal malpractice case against the firm and two attorneys in which a prominent local couple claim they suffered “substantial losses” after the lawyers allegedly ignored their pleas for conservative investment strategies and their money ended up in the hands of Ponzi-schemer Bernard L. Madoff.
Local developer Daniel J. Keating III and his wife, Sarah Keating, filed the suit against Duane Morris, partner Stanley Barg and former partner Stanley Joffe in June, alleging claims of breach of contract, professional liability and quantum meruit, according to the complaint in Keating v. Duane Morris. The plaintiffs alleged that Joffe had substantial performance issues, for which he was ultimately terminated, and that Duane Morris knew of these issues and allowed him to continue to work on their matters, according to the complaint.
