A Pittsburgh rabbi is challenging Pennsylvania’s Board of Funeral Directors in federal court, arguing that it violated his right to freely practice his religion by unevenly enforcing the state’s Funeral Director Law.

However, the court doesn’t have to reach his constitutional claims because it can rule that the law doesn’t properly apply to those who aren’t members of the funeral director profession, said Efrem Grail, a partner at Reed Smith who is representing Rabbi Daniel E. Wasserman.
