After the Office of Disciplinary Counsel brought charges against Pennsylvania state Senator Jeffrey E. Piccola for his work with an “heir-hunting” firm, a news report surfaced noting that a Dauphin County judge with political ties to the senator presided over one of the estates.

According to a report in the Harrisburg Patriot-News earlier this month, Court of Common Pleas President Judge Todd A. Hoover heard the case, while not disclosing that Piccola, R-Dauphin, had chaired the judge’s campaign committee years earlier. The article said criticism had been directed at the judge for failing to inform Piccola’s opponent about his political ties to the 64-year-old senator and not giving them the option to move for his recusal.
