In an effort to determine the proper scope of discovery in a large-scale copyright case, a federal judge is scheduling what he termed a "mini trial."

U.S. District Senior Judge Michael Baylson of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania agreed with McGraw-Hill, the defendant, to bifurcate the case. The textbook publisher’s request for bifurcation followed Baylson’s denial last November of its motion for partial summary judgment based on its argument that many of the plaintiff’s claims were barred by the statute of limitations.
