Allegations that the law firm of Benesch, Friedlander, Coplan & Aronoff breached its fiduciary duty when it represented the interests of one partner in a soured business venture were dismissed by a federal judge.
U.S. District Judge Mitchell Goldberg of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania cited fresh precedent from the U.S. Supreme Court, which earlier in the current term clarified what kind of state-law claims arise under federal law, when he held that the claim implicated state law, depriving his court of jurisdiction. The high court’s case from this year is captioned Gunn v. Minton.
