Discovery in two separate, but related, qui tam cases filed against a Pittsburgh-based for-profit education company should be coordinated, a federal judge said as he upheld a special master’s decisions on contentious discovery issues in a suit where plaintiffs are aiming to prove a “multibillion-dollar” fraud.
U.S. District Judge Terrence McVerry of the Western District of Pennsylvania adopted all of the special master’s recommendations on disputed discovery issues in the suit initially brought by two former recruiters for Education Management Corp., or EDMC, and later joined by the federal government and more than a dozen states.
