Most pregnant women are able to perform their jobs without needing any modifications in the workplace. Others, however, are able to perform the essential functions of their jobs, but need reasonable accommodations. Women in jobs that require heavy lifting, frequent bending, constant standing, or little to no access to water may find it difficult to abide by these job requirements while pregnant. The Women’s Law Project frequently receives calls from these women, including, for example:

• Makayla, an employee at a garden center, who needed assistance while lifting plants.
