The Pennsylvania Superior Court has upheld a $10 million jury award against UPMC Shadyside Hospital.
A three-judge panel unanimously ruled in an unreported memorandum decision in Rettger v. UPMC Shadyside—known as Rettger II—to uphold an Allegheny County jury’s 10-2 verdict awarding $10 million in Survival Act damages to the estate of Michael Rettger, who died from a brain herniation while in the care of UPMC.
