A plaintiffs attorney who ignores that employment settlement agreements are often about more than the settlement amount makes a big mistake.

A failure to insist on mutuality of terms is an assault on the dignity of your client and potentially creates a rift between the two of you. Most clients rightly expect you to protect their interests, interests that a one-sided agreement drafted by your opponent simply does not satisfy. Moreover, there is an increasing welter of issues presented by unemployment, taxes to be paid and privacy that need to be addressed.
