Same-sex marriage and the contested parameters of sovereign and governmental immunity topped the agenda for Commonwealth Court.

Although the court was unable to rule on the hot-button issue of a mandatory retirement age for judges, as the Supreme Court in May assumed jurisdiction over a case pending in the court challenging the requirement, the court weighed in on the same-sex marriage issue, expanded the application of immunity for state and local agencies, examined a corporation’s ability to endorse political candidates, and also expanded the rights of homeowners facing forfeiture of their homes due to criminal activity.
