The leaders of each house of the General Assembly have been denied party status in the Act 13 litigation.
In a three-page per curiam order issued Tuesday afternoon, the state Supreme Court said Pennsylvania Senate President Pro Tempore Joseph Scarnati III, R-Warren, and Rep. Samuel H. Smith, R-Jefferson, the speaker of the state House of Representatives, lack sufficient interest to obtain party status in the case.
