It sounds like the opening of a classic, groan-worthy joke, but clients are hardly laughing as legal fees skyrocket because of the immense amount of digital information maintained by corporations. The sheer volume of documents, emails, texts, drawings, metadata and other electronically stored information (ESI) that must be reviewed during discovery is rising at an overwhelming pace, and the cost to clients is rising right along with it.
