A state Senate bill that would outlaw online intimidation of witnesses or crime victims has been described by several lawyers as a step in the right direction in protecting individuals involved in aiding investigations.

While acknowledging the bill’s positive potential, some say its potency as a deterrent to intimidation carried out on social media and other websites will be measured by its level of exposure to the public.
