Cutting four judges from the state Superior Court and two justices from the state Supreme Court would cause a major slowdown in the civil and criminal legal systems, attorneys and judges who spoke with the Law Weekly said.

Earlier this month, a state Senate committee passed an amended resolution aimed at reducing the number of justices to five and the number of Superior Court judges to 11. According to several judges and attorneys, if that proposal were to become law, plaintiffs and defendants in all areas of the law would see extended delays in their cases as the judges on both courts would struggle to keep pace with the workload.
