As a judicial officer, can I be paid for speaking engagements, receive royalties from a book or earn other income of that nature?

Under the new Code of Judicial Conduct, which is set to take effect July 1 for municipal court, common pleas and appellate judges in Pennsylvania, Rule 3.12 allows a judge to accept reasonable compensation for extrajudicial activities. The extrajudicial activities have to be allowed by the Code of Judicial Conduct and they cannot create an appearance of impropriety.
