Signaling that the National Collegiate Athletic Association and state officials are hashing out a settlement regarding the $60 million penalty the NCAA levied against Penn State in the Jerry Sandusky child sex-abuse scandal, both sides are seeking to postpone proceedings in federal court.

Wednesday, the NCAA, along with opposing parties Gov. Tom Corbett, state Treasurer Rob McCord and others, filed a motion in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania to stay proceedings for 30 days. The five-page joint request in NCAA v. Corbett was made so “the parties may conduct settlement negotiations in an effort to amicably resolve this matter.”
