New rules that the state Supreme Court adopted governing the conduct of magisterial district judges should bring greater clarity regarding their conduct on and off the bench, and will bring the regulations more in line with the newly enacted Code of Judicial Conduct.
The high court, on Sept. 18, rescinded 16 rules from the Rules Governing Standards of Conduct of Magisterial District Judges, and replaced them with four canons outlining new guidelines for conduct in court and while serving on administrative boards. Most of the new rules will go into effect Dec. 1.
