Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice Seamus P. McCaffery has been suspended by his peers on the court based on the recent pornographic email scandal as well as other allegations of wrongdoing involving referral fees paid to his wife and attempts to “exert influence” over judicial assignments.
In a per curiam order late Monday, the court suspended McCaffery on an interim basis with pay. The order said the suspension was a result of the email scandal, as well as reports that McCaffery may have acted in his official capacity to authorize hundreds of thousands of dollars in referral fees from plaintiffs firms while his wife, Lise Rapaport, served as his judicial clerk; may have improperly contacted a Philadelphia Traffic Court official regarding a ticket his wife received; and may have attempted to “exert influence over a judicial assignment in the Philadelphia Common Pleas bench outside the scope of his duties.”
