A federal judge has remanded a potential defamation suit against Louis J. Freeh to state court, effectively ending for now Freeh’s attempts to have the federal court take up the case.

On Nov. 26, U.S. District Judge Malachy E. Mannion of the Middle District of Pennsylvania said Freeh’s attempts to remove the case, Spanier v. Freeh, to federal court were premature, as a complaint in the matter has yet to be filed. The ruling granted a motion from ex-Penn State President Graham B. Spanier, who had sought to remand the case to the Centre County Court of Common Pleas.
