I noticed many of the candidates running for judicial office this year seem awfully young. Are there any objective criteria for a judicial officer seeking election in Pennsylvania?

For the courts of common pleas and Pennsylvania appellate courts, the only qualification is that a lawyer is licensed in Pennsylvania and is in good standing. If a lawyer is suspended or disbarred or under administrative suspension, he or she probably cannot run for judicial office. The Pennsylvania Constitution, under Article V, specifies the qualifications for judgeships on the Supreme, Superior, Commonwealth and common pleas courts in Sections 2 through 5 and 12.
