A trial court cannot grant a motion to reconsider an order more than 30 days after it was filed, absent special circumstances, the Superior Court has ruled.

The court decided in M&T Bank v. Greenville Gastroenterology that the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas lacked authority to grant reconsideration of an order to dismiss a case more than 85 days after it entered that order. In doing so, it vacated a more than $190,000 verdict and remanded the case for entry of judgment in the defendants’ favor.
