Despite the relatively dry but cold winter in the Delaware Valley, the myriad ski resorts in the Pocono Mountains are surely thriving. You cannot drive on I-95 without seeing a billboard or hearing an advertisement on the radio inviting you to come up to the mountains to take part in snow sports and activities. From sending employees to events such as the Wing Bowl, college fairs and other winter events in the region, the presence of many of the Pocono ski resorts is unavoidable.
The recreational options at the Pocono ski resorts have expanded greatly over the years. Skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, snowmobiling and sleigh rides are just a few of the options you can find in the Poconos from a simple Google search. The slopes are packed this time of year, and with the crowds come inevitable injuries. From ill-fated examples such as Sonny Bono and Michael Kennedy, many have become aware of the dangers of snow sports. As of 2012, according to a study by the National Ski Areas Association, 67 percent of skiers and snowboarders wore helmets, which was up 171 percent from the 2002-03 season.
