A common pleas judge who awarded $25,000 in attorney fees for a case with $10,000 in damages has said the amount was reasonable, despite opposite appeals from both parties to the Pennsylvania Superior Court.

Allegheny County Judge Alan Hertzberg wrote in a March 23 opinion that attorney fees in Dibish v. Ameriprise, a case involving negligent misrepresentation in life insurance sales, were awarded based on regional attorney rates and the success of the claim. The plaintiff has said the fees were inadequate, while the defendants have called them excessive.
