I filed a lawsuit against several defendants, one of whom told me he wanted to give me a statement. Can I take one?

Any time an unrepresented opposing party or key witness contacts an attorney who has brought litigation, the attorney must be very careful. Failure to handle the situation properly can result in potentially serious discipline for violating Rule of Professional Conduct 4.3, and also could result in the lawyer being disqualified from continuing representation in the case.
