The attorney for retired Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge Willis W. Berry Jr. attacked the credibility of the prosecution’s star witness during opening statements, saying she is only testifying out of retaliation.
Attorney Nino V. Tinari, who is representing the former judge now accused of running a landlord business out of his judicial office, told jurors that Berry’s longtime former secretary, Carolyn Fleming, “siphoned” money from Berry and then approached the state Attorney General’s Office after he confronted her about taking his money.
