I am running for a judicial office and I want to enhance fundraising for the campaign by having raffles and auctions at campaign rallies. Can I do that?

You can’t have raffles and for auctions the better practice would be not to. The Code of Judicial Conduct, under Canon 4, talks about campaign activities of a judge. First, obviously, the candidate for judicial office cannot raise money. Only the judge’s political committee can raise money for them. Canon 4.2(c) specifically prohibits personal solicitation or acceptance of campaign contributions by a candidate for judicial office. Under Rule 4.4, the candidate has to take reasonable steps to ensure his or her campaign committee complies with the Code of Judicial Conduct and other applicable laws, such as criminal law and election finance laws.
