The state Supreme Court has sent back to the Commonwealth Court a dispute over whether two county detention center employees were improperly fired for their involvement in a union, finding it overstepped its authority in the case.

The court ruled Oct. 27 in Lancaster County v. Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board to reverse an en banc Commonwealth Court decision holding that the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board improperly determined the public employees were fired over their union activity. Lancaster County had argued that the officers were fired for stealing snacks out of a fellow employee’s mailbox.
