A Philadelphia jury has awarded a deceased factory worker and his wife $1.7 million, in what attorneys say was the first asbestos case tried against an employer.

The jury in Busbey v. ESAB Group last week awarded $1 million to Doris A. Busbey and $700,000 to the estate of John F. Busbey under the Wrongful Death Act and Survival Act. The jury found John Busbey’s former employer to be 100 percent liable for his mesothelioma and death.
