Following the historic election of three new Pennsylvania Supreme Court justices this November, the court faces the unusual challenge of transitioning nearly half its complement into a system where they will encounter new responsibilities, procedures and expectations.
The incoming justices—Superior Court Judges David N. Wecht and Christine L. Donohue and Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Administrative Judge Kevin Dougherty—will all benefit from their judicial experience, but adapting to the high court won’t happen overnight, court observers said. By one estimate, it could take as long as three years to become a fully productive and efficient member of the bench.
