In a response to the Judicial Conduct Board’s ethics complaint against him, Justice J. Michael Eakin said Wednesday his emails were never meant to be made public, did not discuss cases or legal matters and did not bring the state Supreme Court into disrepute.

Eakin filed an answer and new matter with the Court of Judicial Discipline admitting to many of the claims made in the JCB’s 51-page complaint that charged him with four ethics violations over his involvement in sending and receiving pornographic and offensive emails, but he denied allegations that his actions constituted violations of the old Code of Judicial Conduct and the Pennsylvania Constitution.
