Pennsylvania’s intermediate appellate courts handled a number of high-profile cases in 2015, dealing with executive branch decisions and the fallout of two major criminal cases. While they answered a number of those questions by the year’s end, and in one case were affirmed by the state’s high court, the appellate judges have yet to issue two highly anticipated rulings that were ­argued this year.

Lynn Gets New Trial

The state Superior Court gave the first Catholic Church administrative official convicted of endangering the welfare of children abused by other priests another chance at trial. A split three-judge panel of the court vacated the sentence of Monsignor William J. Lynn, who was previously sentenced to three to six years’ incarceration.
