Coming off a record year for law firm mergers, with the Midwest and southern portions of the country targets of opportunity, Pennsylvania law firms will continue to expand in those markets while eyeing new geographic locations such as the Pacific Northwest, consultants and firm leaders said.

Pennsylvania law firms comprised nearly 11 percent of the mergers announced in 2015, with grabs in places like Chicago, Minneapolis, Texas and Floridaall areas getting attention nationally. And for many, those markets will continue to be a focus for growth in 2016, despite some challenges, such as a dwindling number of merger options in Chicago and a slowdown in the energy sector in Houston.
