The managing partner of Fox Rothschild testified Wednesday about the firm’s confidentiality rules in the case of Herbert Sudfeld Jr.—a former Fox Rothschild attorney accused of insider trading related to the firm’s handling of a merger between Nationwide and Harleysville Insurance.

Mark Silow, managing partner at Fox Rothschild, testified in federal court in Philadelphia that the firm was buzzing at the time of its representation of Harleysville in the 2011 merger talks because it was the biggest deal Fox Rothschild had handled at the time. But he added that confidentiality was a primary concern in the period prior to the two companies’ public announcement of the merger.
