Sources expressed uncertainty over the full impact of the revelation in court papers that suspended Municipal Court Judge Joseph O’Neill is expected to soon face federal criminal charges.
A joint filing made late last month in the Court of Judicial Discipline—made by O’Neill’s lawyer as well as Judicial Conduct Board attorneys—said an assistant U.S. attorney told the JCB he expected federal criminal charges to be filed against O’Neill “in the near future.” Both sides secured a delay of a disciplinary hearing against O’Neill over alleged improper ex parte communications.
