Blank Rome wants a dispute with one of its former partners sent to mandatory arbitration, arguing the partner added claims to his suit as an “end-run” around the partnership agreement’s arbitration provisions.

In its first response to Alfred Zaher’s suit against the firm, its chairman and two other lawyers, Blank Rome said Zaher knew his claims had to be arbitrated because he initially sought arbitration in the matter. But when the firm declined Zaher’s revised arbitration proposal that differed from its partnership agreement’s terms, Zaher added claims for specific performance and equitable injunctive relief and filed the lawsuit Zaher v. Hoffman in open court, the firm said.
