Former Pennsylvania Supreme Court Justice J. Michael Eakin has been hit with a $50,000 fine by the Court of Judicial Discipline, which found that his involvement in sending and receiving offensive emails “seriously jeopardized” the reputation of the judiciary.
The CJD issued a per curiam order Thursday in which it said Eakin’s conduct violated former Canon 2A of the Code of Judicial Conduct, the version in effect at the time of his actions, and Article V, Section 17(b) of the Pennsylvania Constitution. The court said Eakin failed to promote public confidence in the judiciary.
