The First Judicial District touted its cost-saving measures and cooperation with other criminal justice agencies when it came before Philadelphia City Council on Wednesday asking for approval of its nearly $158 million budget for next year.

Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas President Judge Sheila Woods-Skipper presented the court’s proposed budget to City Council, which would include $110 million from the city’s general fund, with the additional $47.6 million covered through grants. Woods-Skipper, who was recently appointed as chairwoman of the FJD’s Administrative Governing Board, told council members the court’s budget is aimed at implementing new criminal justice initiatives, and enhancing collaboration with other agencies, including the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, the police and City Council.
