Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law has named Mark C. Alexander as its next dean, marking the first time the university has had an African-American dean.

Alexander, who joins the law school from his role as associate dean for academics at Seton Hall University School of Law, is set to join Villanova on July 1. Alexander replaces John Gotanda, who left the law school after five years to serve as president of Hawaii Pacific University in Honolulu.
