As nationwide concerns grow over the presence of lead in public drinking water, a West Philadelphia resident has filed a proposed class action alleging that the city’s water supply is unsafe—and that the city has knowingly concealed any danger to residents.
Eleni Delopoulos, as a proposed class representative, alleged in a suit filed June 2 in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas that the city rigs its lead testing procedures by sampling an inordinate amount of low-risk homes, in violation of federal regulations. The practice is “not only deceptive, reckless and unethical, but plainly violates federal law,” the complaint said.
