Gov. Tom Wolf plans to nominate Superior Court Judge Sallie Updyke Mundy to fill the vacancy on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court left by former Justice J. Michael Eakin’s March resignation, sources have told The Legal. If confirmed by the Republican-controlled state Senate, Mundy would serve on an interim basis through next year.

Interim appointments are typically sealed with a handshake agreement not to run for election at term’s end, but sources said no such agreement is in place for the individuals Wolf plans to nominate for several current vacancies. Among the others expected to be nominated to fill openings on the state’s appellate courts—three on the Superior Court and two on the Commonwealth Court—are Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge Lillian Harris Ransom and H. Geoffrey Moulton Jr., whom Wolf hired last year to work in the Pennsylvania Office of General Counsel. Both are expected to be nominated to the Superior Court.
