The state Superior Court has reversed a nearly $1 million sanction against Philadelphia-area defense attorney Nancy Raynor, which had been levied after a defense expert inappropriately referenced smoking during a lung-cancer-related case and caused a mistrial.

The three-judge appellate panel’s unanimous decision in Sutch v. Roxborough Memorial Hospital reversed a contempt order and vacated all judgments related to a $946,197 sanction that Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge Paul P. Panepinto imposed against Raynor in November 2014.
