I am in the middle of a trial in a criminal case, and the district attorney who is prosecuting the case has been extremely unfriendly and discourteous. There are constant suggestions I am acting unethically. What are my ethical duties?
Unless the other person is acting unethically, there are Rules of Professional Conduct regulating an attorney acting rudely or who just acts or expresses a dislike toward the opposing counsel. Lack of civility is an unfortunate trend in this modern legal world where there is no longer the collegiality of the past. Also, this is a byproduct where attorneys emphasizing just one area of law don’t have a broader perspective of the profession.
