The U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision imposing stricter standards for prosecuting bribery could shift the scales in favor of two Philadelphia politicians’ corruption cases.

On Monday, the court unanimously vacated the conviction of former Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell, who was charged after receiving gifts and loans from a businessman who wanted state universities to perform clinical tests on dietary ­supplements his company had developed.
